Abstract
Choppers normally operate at frequencies well above the drive cutoff frequency so that, in general, in drive design their precise dynamic characteristics are not of great significance. In contrast, the incremental gain, which exhibits very substantial variation with load, is a crucial factor in the design of a high-performance system. The factors influencing the incremental gain and its variation with load are reviewed for both normal and regenerative choppers.
