Abstract
In this paper, a magnetically suspended drive is proposed with two-axis active position regulation having one unit of a bearingless motor for possible flywheel applications. For the other unit, a three-axis positioning is supported by passive magnetic bearings. Basic force and stiffness characteristics are investigated by three-dimensional (3-D) magnetic-field analysis.
