Abstract
A micropocessor-based control of a four-quadrant chopper fed from a dc source is discussed. An optimum control strategy for the control of the four-quadrant chopper is presented. With this control strategy, a type B current-commutated four-quadrant chopper (McMurray chopper) provides special characteristics, for example, low input current ripple, low output voltage ripple, low losses, and fast response. A description of the program for producing the required gating signals by an M6800 is provided. The flowchart of the program is also illustrated. Theoretical results have been verified with a 10-kW experimental setup.
