Abstract :
The efficacy of using wireless proxy servers to minimise total power dissipation in transmission of layered video is studied. Relaying one or more layers over the proxy can achieve power saving which is shown to be a function of the relative position of the proxy server to the server, layer encoding rates, wireless channel characteristics and received signal power levels.
