Abstract :
A robust, adaptive control scheme is presented which stabilises a nonlinear model of a power system to disturbances anywhere in the power system. The control is local, in the sense that the control of each machine depends only on information available at the machine. Simulation results are presented which show that the control is very effective against instabilities of current importance such as sustained oscillations following a major system disturbance
