Abstract :
The author reviews the progress achieved since MT6 in the understanding of mechanical disturbances in high-performance superconducting magnets. Attention is given to the use of acoustic emission technology for monitoring superconducting magnets. Energy, motion, and modeling aspects are also considered. In addition, it is suggested that the most important innovation for the stabilization of adiabatic solenoidal magnets in the past 14 years is the `floating-coil´ technique. Future research needs are also discussed
