Abstract
This paper is an obituary in memory of Dr. Kenichi Miya who made many contributions in the research of radio waves and satellite communications. Dr. Miya was been a president of the International Communications Society (ISCS) and involved in ionospheric research during the International Geophysical Year, 1957-58. In honor of his many achievements, he received the IEEE award in International Communications in 1987.
