Abstract
Under the assumption of dominant viscous friction, a set of second-order equations is presented to describe electrically and mechanically a dc motor in the dynamic braking mode of operation. A reduction to first-order equations is then demonstrated under the constraint of negligible armature inductance. Potential applications are proposed, including open loop positioning systems. Finally, a test circuit and experimental data are included for verifying the mathematics.
