The first of three articles in this issue is by Glen Bertini of Novinium, entitled ¿Diagnostic Testing of Stochastic Cables.¿ This article considers cable failures as being a stochastic process in that failures are non-deterministic and that the state of the cable is determined by both a predicable process and a random process. Field testing of cables is inherently destructive and simply de-energizing a circuit may create sufficient stress to cause a cable to fail.
