Abstract :
The effect of the addition of Ta on the structure, magnetic properties, and recording performance of CoCrTaPt/Cr alloy thin films were studied. The addition of Ta increased the out-of-plane (00.2) component of the c-axis in the hcp structure of CoCrTaPt. The in-plane coercivity showed a maximum at 2.5 at.% Ta and decreased monotonically up to Ta 8 at.% Ta. The normalized medium noise monotonically decreased with addition of Ta. The decrease in noise might be due to Cr or Ta segregation
