Editorial (Dick Tracy watch)

A well-executed telephone wristwatch was perhaps one of the most anticipated gadgets in history and seen by many as a milestone for the electronics industry. Fictitious but nevertheless outstanding crime fighter Dick Tracy had used one in its basic two-way radio form since 1946, with a video upgrade in 1964, and complete computer capability added in 1987. Few industry executives and engineers would have grown up unaware of the Dick Tracy watch and as such, its development had long been one of the goals of the electronics industry.
