Design Considerations for the Electrical Distribution System of an American Retreating Longwall

Some of the electrical problems encountered with starting and operating an American retreating longwall are addressed. Some basic design considerations are pointed out that should be satisfied in choosing the electrical distribution system required for the longwall. Basic criteria for motor selection for the armored face conveyor are also discussed. Lastly, the economic considerations in choosing a distribution system are examined.
