Abstract
The development of power semiconductors and their application in the past few decades has brought about new requirements for their protection by fuses. In a large number of applications the fuse has to interrupt a direct-current fault. These applications include chopper circuits, regenerative dc drives, battery supplies, traction applications, and inverter circuits used in variable-speed ac drives and uninterruptible power supplies. Guidance is provided on fuse selection in typical circuits.
