Abstract :
The SMS consists of two pairs of symmetrical coaxial coils wound by multifilamentary Nb-Ti/Cu wires with 1.0 and 1.2 mm diameters. The windings were impregnated by epoxy. The dimensions of the central coil windings are inner diameter 220 mm, outer diameter 340 mm, and height 43 mm. The dimensions of the side coil windings are inner diameter 100 mm, outer diameter 120 mm, and height 41 mm. The overall dimensions of the SMS are diameter 405 mm, and height 260 mm. The maximum working current is 360 A. The magnetic field in the center is 5.6 T. The dimensions of the zone with field uniformity within 2×10-4 are diameter 72 mm and height 20 mm. The stored energy is 0.34 MJ. The SMS can work in the persistent mode. The resistance of the superconducting switch in a normal state is 1 Ω. The magnetic field attenuation is not more than 10-5 per 1 h. A quench protection technique by subdivision with external low ohmic shunting resistors is used
