Abstract
Present and future trends of microprocessor applications in biomedical instrumentation are discussed, with emphasis on data acquisition. Their expanding role in laboratory and hospital instrumentation is described with a few application examples. A few microprocessor-based instrument architectures for data acquisition are discussed. The advantages and tradeoffs involved in their use in biomedical instrumentation are discussed.
