Abstract :
Mixing of several frequencies in any nonlinear reactance having a characteristic that can be represented by a power series is considered. The purpose of this paper is to cite the importance of the nature of the nonlinearity in mixing processes occurring in nonlinear reactances. Power relationships are derived, and limitations imposed by a finite degree of nonlinearity are considered. Restrictions on the source frequencies are found, and it is shown that in practice incommensurability is not required. The special cases of harmonic generation and subharmonic generation are considered. For the case in which the circuit considered in this paper is identical to that analyzed by Manley and Rowe, the results obtained here agree with theirs.
