Abstract :
This paper describes a method of designing IF amplifiers using a digital computer. G. S. Bahrs has developed a method for designing stable amplifiers using potentially unstable elements. The present paper extends this approach so that it is possible to include bandwidth as a design parameter. Input data consists of sets of two-port parameters measured over the frequency range of interest, a stability factor p and the desired bandwidth. Using these values, the computer calculates the values of all elements needed for a complete amplifier. The method is also applicable to multi-element configurations which can be viewed externally as a single unit, e.g., cascode circuits and partially neutralized amplifiers. All calculations are performed by an IBM 650 computer. Several examples are given.
