Abstract
The objectives of designing ferrite/dielectric-loaded cavity-backed slot (CBS) antennas are low resonant frequency, wide bandwidth, and high gain performances. Various parameters, such as the location and shape of the probe, placement of the ferrite and dielectric materials, and the properties of the materials, can affect the performance of the CBS antennas. After many parametric examinations using predictions and measurements, optimal designs were implemented for ferrite/dielectric-loaded rectangular and circular cross-sectional CBS antennas. Several models of CBS antennas were designed and fabricated. The computational predictions were compared with measurements, and they are in good agreement in terms of gain, return loss, and resonant frequency. Guidelines are provided for the design of general ferrite/dielectric-loaded CBS antennas.
