Abstract :
Barry A. Bell, 65, died 13 March 2003 in Montgomery General Hospital, Olney, Maryland, USA as the result of a stroke. Barry was an electronics engineer who, since 1976, had worked for the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), now the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He had an exceptional sense of professional responsibility and served the engineering community through extensive involvement in the IEEE both locally and nationally. He served in a variety of capacities ranging from conference technical chair, technical committee member, IEEE´s Washington Section Chair, and a member of its Instrumentation and Measurement Society´s AdCom. Barry became an IEEE Fellow in 1997 for his technical leadership in the development of analog electronic standards based on digital technology.
