Abstract :
The design and implementation of script-based reasoning techniques integrated into a rule-based diagnoser for the purpose of debriefing air force pilots who have completed a bomber training mission are reported. The system was developed on a Symbolics Lisp Machine using Flavors and has the capability of reasoning about the tactical situations and providing plausible explanations of these activities as they evolve. Prestored mission events serve as script templates that are matched against actual events and the time relation between events. The intelligent training system then generates multiple hypotheses, diagnoses both pilot and crew errors, and generates a written evaluation of the mission along with a set of graphics that is used to supplement the written report
