Abstract :
This paper deals with the optimization of the PML absorbing boundary condition in finite-difference time-domain computer codes designed for the solution of scattering and coupling problems encountered in the field of electromagnetic compatibility. The critical parameters of the perfectly matched layer (PML) are estimated in function of the problem to be solved, and a blackbox PML concept is introduced. The blackbox PML renders use of computer codes easy, reliable, and optimum in terms of PML thickness. This is illustrated by various numerical experiments.
