  • Abstract
    The potential capability of CADCAM systems has increased considerably since the introduction of the early wire-frame systems. This article suggests that systems have evolved through four distinct generations, and argues the claims of a `fifth-generation¿ system based on a solid geometric modeller and a flexible database management system.
