Abstract :
There is now an urgent need for advanced CAD facilities in degree courses in microelectronics design. This paper reviews the needs of the educational environment in the light of investigations made by the University Working Party on Microelectronics Fabrication and CAD. Commercially available software packages are appraised for their suitability in educational use, and progress on their procurement through a national initiative is reported.
