Abstract :
A tight upper bound or bit error rate (BER) is derived for approximate maximum likelihood differential detection (DD) implemented by the reduced state Viterbi algorithm (VA) known as RSVDD. The BER performance of RSVDD is compared with Viterbi DD (VDD) for M-ary DPSK in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels
