Abstract :
Design and analysis of a cavity-stabilised Gunn oscillator is described, taking into account the special behaviour of a glass cavity. Using a simplified equivalent circuit, the oscillator behaviour is calculated and proved by experiments. A strongly frequency-dependent load at the input of the cavity reduces the loss of mode stabilisation. The small linear tempetature dependence of the oscillator results in an average stability of 8Ã10-8/°C in a 100°C range. The calculated high stabilisation effect of the oscillator structure is confirmed by the measured low f.m. noise level.
