Abstract :
The principle of the superconducting cryogenic direct-current comparator (CCC) is applied to the noninvasive sensing of charged-particle beams (ions, electrons). We have developed a novel current concentrating technique using HTS thick-film material to increase the sensitivity of the CCC. Recent simulations and experimental measurements of the superconducting properties, magnetic shielding factor, and current concentration ratio of prototype HTS-CCC devices operating at 77 K are described. Limiting current sensitivities of the present technology and possible future versions are discussed, with reference to a potential application in the determination of the faraday.
