  • Abstract
    The calculation of electromagnetic fields for two-dimensional (2-D) large open cavities filled with a layered material is studied. By defining two extension operators, the exact solution and the mode-matching solution may be formulated under the same framework, which makes it possible to analyze the difference. Using an asymptotic technique, we present a new (improved) mode-matching method. In particular, the explicit solution of the model problem is given. Numerical examples are presented.
