Abstract :
HE11 and HE12 mode coupling is obtained in smoothly tapered fibres with nonconventional index profiles, which provide both good spectrum-selective characteristics and very low excess loss. Power oscillations and wavelength spectra of smoothly tapered fibres with a variety of index profiles are studied experimentally.
