Abstract :
An optical communication system compromising both polarisation diversity and phase noise cancellation has been proposed. In a 5.5 Mbit/s transmission experiment, phase noise simulated by 1.5 MHz frequency modulation of the source, and polarisation disturbances at the fibre output, were successfully cancelled by using two collinearly polarised fields which differed in frequency.
