Abstract :
The periodic upsurge of interest in the subject of switching overvoltages is usually based on a limited approach, often without numerate proof of the supposed practical criteria. This article shows that there is adequate background information to permit an informed view to be established, and demonstrates that the potential problem of a lack of understanding between the interrupter and rotating machine manufacturers is not real, although more information on interrupter performance is needed.
