Abstract :
Significant distortion in the characteristics of an electrostatic-energy analyzer has been observed when used in an intense ultraviolet-radiation environment. The observed effects are attributed to ultraviolet photons striking the electrode and/or resistive divider structures in the analyzer, resulting in voltage changes on the guard rings. The distortion can be evaluated by matching experimental characteristics with model-based calculations, thereby reducing the error in the measurement of ion energy.
