  • Abstract
The science of electronics is considered one of the hopeful influences to help in maintaining a high rate of industrial activity in the postwar era. To do this requires that new electronic applications for industry be developed rapidly. A review of such applications in the past indicates a period of transition from initial laboratory work to extended commercial use that is too slow to be helpful in any immediate postwar period. The reasons for this are considered. Under the impetus of war, this period of time required for development has been cut drastically in the case of electronic devices for military use. The reasons for this speeding up are also considered. In conclusion, there is reason to believe that some of the wartime speeding-up influences will continue on into the postwar era. These, in combination with previous experience and background, give encouragement to the belief that electronics in industry will be of real help in creating new postwar business activity.
