Abstract
Aluminium smelters are very large consumers of both electricity and gas, and energy efficiency is absolutely vital. Today a modern smelter occupies a site outside Holyhead, and this factory is one of Europe´s largest smelters. It consumes over 1800 million units of electricity a year which is supplied from a nuclear power plant
