Abstract :
Guided wave propagation in a warm, isotropic, lossy, electron plasma is studied with the help of dispersion relations of TE and TM modes. The phase and attenuation characteristics of the "slow," "fast," "extra," and "waveguide" waves are discussed and presented as graphs with the normalized collision frequency and normalized angular wave frequency as parameters. Significant effects of losses on TM modes of isotropic plasma waveguide are discussed and compared with those of uniaxial plasma waveguide. The two extra modes in the iso-tropic case are due to the convection of dc fields. Fast wave is significantly affected by the strength of the static magnetic field.
