  • Abstract
Telecommunication development assists social cohesion as it encourages interaction between communities. This is apt for developing countries like Ghana, which have poor rural and urban transportation systems and are plagued with ethnic conflicts. These inherently positive contributions to socioeconomic development create the necessity for every country (especially developing ones) to develop an effective telecommunications system. Ghana, recognizing the catalytic role telecommunications play in socioeconomic development, has over the past 15 years made some efforts to develop its telecommunications network. The poor state of the telecommunications services in the country needs much serious attention. It has placed Ghanaian business people and industrialists at a disadvantage by making them uncompetitive in the global market where telecommunications plays a cardinal role in ensuring competitiveness. It also affects the social and political organization of the country. Therefore, there is the need to make the introduction of liberalization into the sector blossom so as to facilitate development of telecommunications services in Ghana
