Abstract
Project management is a topic which occurs on an increasing number of college and university courses in engineering and computing. Inspection of syllabuses will reveal the same tools and techniques being covered in both `hard¿¿ engineering disciplines (such as mechanical engineering) and `soft¿¿ engineering (such as computing science). This paper describes those tools and techniques and looks at the difficulties in applying them successfully to projects concerned with building computer-based information systems.
