Abstract
The rapid development of the communications and electronics field, and its present and potential importance in times of peace and war, are clear to farseeing Governmental officers. The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) has consistently endeavored to contribute to the advancement of this field. It is accordingly encouraging and stimulating to receive a message from Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Chief of Naval Operations of the United States Navy. The readers of the PROCEEDINGS OF THE IRE AND WAVES AND ELECTRONS will gain a clear picture of the importance of Naval contributions to this field and the desirability of further co-operation with the Armed Forces from the accompanying paper by Commander Delbert S. Wicks, United States Navy.
