  • Abstract
As we move towards packet switched based multimedia wireless cellular networks supporting different kinds of applications, QoS guarantee for such applications will be challenging tasks. This article makes a brief review of several techniques for QoS provisioning in wireless cellular network.. These techniques are classified into five categories: call admission control and bandwidth reservation, buffer and queue management, cross layer design, distributed dynamic fault tolerant channel allocation based on distributed mutual exclusion and evolutionary techniques. The major issues and challenges in designing CAC for the next generation wireless network (i.e. 4G) are also discussed. These challenges are mainly due to translation of QoS parameters and QoS negotiation/renegotiation among the heterogeneous wireless networks. The QoS techniques fall into NP class of problems and therefore evolutionary algorithms are used to give a suboptimal solution.
