Abstract :
Discusses different ways of improving UK and other EC member states legislation. Many people will be aware of the trend towards an increase in legislation in general, and in IT legislation in particular, both from Westminster, and more often from Brussels. The British Data Protection Act, the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, not to mention the Software Directive, draft Data Protection Directive, and the impending draft Database Directive spring immediately to mind. And yet, important though these laws are, governments of all persuasions are too slow in their legislative programme for the whole information marketplace.
