Abstract
The nonlinear phase shift induced on a time-varying optical source propagating in an optical fibre is directly measured using linear optical sampling, a coherent sampling oscilloscope that can measure samples of the electric field of an optical source. Comparison of the measured amplitude and phase yields a direct measurement of the nonlinearity of the optical fibre.
