Abstract
Based on his experience as a consulting engineer the author discusses the field of installation engineering-the utilisation of electric power within buildings. The author discusses the role of the consultant, IEE Wiring Regulations and management of the project. The author then discusses the building of the House of Fraser store in the Meadowhall complex in Sheffield, the building of a new ice rink, and the refurbishment of Broadcasting House in London. The energy requirements and power supplies for each building are discussed. The author compares European practice with that of the UK
