Abstract :
A method that treats electromagnetics, circuits, and mechanical dynamics as a coupled set of equations is described. The finite-element method is used along with a numerical integration method for time stepping, and the Newton-Raphson scheme is used to model saturation. Moving parts are described in terms of a moving, deformable finite-element mesh. A 9000 HP squirrel cage induction motor is used as an example of the application of the method
