Abstract :
Some results of recent scintillator research are presented. A description of the scintillation mechanisms of BaF2 and of the influence of Pb2+ and La3+ doping on the scintillation characteristics is given. The UV scintillation properties of LaF3:Nd3+ are discussed. It is shown that scintillation light (λ=173 nm) emitted by this crystal can be detected in a photosensitive multiwire proportional counter. The decay time of the emission is 6 ns
