Abstract :
The author examines and refutes seven common beliefs regarding expert systems tools. His arguments are based on several studies that used a variety of tools to build both real-world and synthetic systems. The misconceptions addressed add to the difficulty of selecting a tool to meet the requirements of a specific application.<>
