  • Abstract
    Photons emitted by avalanches in gases can be detected with an image intensifier coupled to a digitizing camera. The authors investigated the emission properties of various gas mixtures in order to increase the light yield. Several applications of the imaging chamber are illustrated: for high-granularity tracking of complex events and of electromagnetic and hadronic showers; for Cerenkov ring-imaging of charged particles and electromagnetic showers; and for use as a tracking device in a neutrino-tagging experiment
