Abstract
Hypertext may be the technology of the 1990s, just as expert systems were the technology of the 1980s. But is this good or bad news for hypertext? It is perhaps too early to say whether expert systems will be an enormous success or an obviously flawed attempt by engineers to dabble in psychology and philosophy. Will hypertext have similar mixed reviews ten years from now?
