Abstract :
The authors report 1.3 μm DFB lasers operating in the -40-85°C temperature range without a thermo-electric cooler. At 850C the threshold current is 35 mA and quantum efficiency is as high as 0.21 mW/mA. In a 2.5Gbit/s system, measurements with a highly dispersive fibre indicate a transmission penalty below 0.3 dB up to 75°C
