Good technical documentation is essential for any company producing electronic equipment. Electronics companies should invest in and maintain a well equipped technical documentation department, staffed with personnel having good technical knowledge and skills. The authors review the basis of a technical publications department, the staffing requirements and the expected qualifications and training of the personnel involved. Also reviewed are the various stages in preparing a technical publication, from its conception, through the process of obtaining and preparing information, up to its final presentation. A brief look at the future of technical publications with respect to methods of storing and retrieving information is presented. A list of specifications and a bibliography are included.<>
