Abstract :
A method for transient stability analysis of multimachine power systems has been investigated. This method is based on the comparison of the potential energy transfer that takes place between a critical machine and its cutset with the fault kinetic energy produced during the fault. Three fault cases on the reduced Iowa system have been simulated. The results show that the total energy absorbed by the critical cutset in the post fault network must meet or exceed the kinetic energy produced during the fault for the system stability
