Abstract :
Describes a course which has been implemented at the University of Bath to introduce undergraduate students to a practical integrated circuit design methodology. The course makes use of the Qudos `Quickchip´ design package, running on Apollo workstations, and fabrication is also done through Qudos. The course is run over two years, the second and third years of a BEng degree in Electronics and Communications. The students learn how to run the software in the second year, and are then given a final year design project to complete. The complete course has now been run twice. Details are given of the course structure, problems encountered and successes achieved, as well as results from the fabricated chips. Finally, an assessment is made of the course and the Qudos facilities
